Why Methyl-cobalamin instead of Cyanocobalamin?

Vitamin B12 is an important water-soluble B-complex vitamin that plays a critical role in maintaining good health. Vitamin B12 deficiency is a common nutritional disorder that can result in hematological and neurological manifestations. There are two forms of vitamin B12 supplements: cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin.
Methylcobalamin has been found to be the better option due to its higher efficiency and bioavailability. Unlike cyanocobalamin, methylcobalamin does not require conversion in the liver to be utilized by the body. Research has shown that it is better absorbed and more efficiently used and retained in the body, making it a safer and more effective choice. Methylcobalamin is particularly beneficial for people suffering from acute or chronic degenerative neurological symptoms and insomnia, as it helps to modulate human circadian rhythms. Based on scientific literature, methylcobalamin is recommended over cyanocobalamin, especially in patients with impaired kidney function, including the elderly.
